On Monday the 11th of May my grade, 6D, had the privilege of hosting a Skype call to a school in Shanghai. But not just any school. The Shanghai Community International School is a school for children who have moved to China because their parent’s work demands it and sometimes they cannot speak, or speak very little, Chinese or English. They have a number of special programs, including ESL or English as a Second Language.

Alana, Corey, Erin, Molayo, Gabby, Jessica and Olympia had the experience of chatting to them about life and living in Shanghai and what it’s like to go to an International School. It was interesting (and fun!) to talk to kids so different and yet so alike to us. And the fact that they’re on the other side of the world and in a totally different Hemisphere factors as well!

Molayo thinks “It was a totally awesome experience!” And Alana agrees. “I can’t wait ‘till we do something similar!”

Melbourne Football Club visit at BLPS.

On Tuesday 2nd June 2009 the grade 3 went on the oval to see three Melbourne Footballers Lynden Dunn, Tom McNamara and Trent Zomer.

First everyone went for a jog around the football posts for a warm up. We jumped up and down for another warm up. We all did a handballing drill. First we got into six lines facing each other. Then we all ran halfway to the opposite line, then handballed it to the next person in the line before running to the end of that line.

Next, the same thing except we bounced the footballs instead. Drop punt kicks were next. The last four students of each line moved to make two new lines for the kicks. We all kicked balls to the person at the front of the opposite line. We tried to mark it but most people failed. For some reason we played octopus. We went back to our classes at 12:00. It was a fabulous experience.

This is the Easter Hat parade. All the preps are involved, they are PT, PO, PW and PC there were lots of parents as well. One of the teachers introduced all the different grades to the parents and other teachers. There were also some grade 6’s.  Some of the preps had little Easter eggs hanging from there hats. Also a few of them had eggs on top of there hats and some on the sides. Great job to all of the preps.

On the 4th of April 2009 Berwick Lodge Primary School had the Easter Hat Parade. All the hats were different shapes and sizes. Some children made them by hand and other children brought their hats, but all together it was great. Lots of the children wore outfits to go with the hats. They probably spent lots of time and effort.

This year’s Easter Hat Parade was a hit. There were hats of all different shapes and sizes. In my opinion I liked the hats with Easter eggs on them-yum! A lot of hats had the original Easter Bunny ears. I also saw the occasional high hat. I also saw one hat with lots and lots and lots of feathers. I think it was the best Easter hat parade ever!

This is the wonderful 2009 Easter bonnet Parade at Berwick Lodge Primary School, held in the gym because of the windy and dusty weather. All of the hats look like they were very hard to make. All of the teachers were wearing rabbit ears.  Well done to all the hard work to all of the parents and children!
